USER MANUAL LINKS

The backup module provides a limited methodology for generating a backup of your dotProject installation.

Because secure backups should be such a vital part of your system administration regime, we would strongly suggest that you do not rely on the backup module as your only form of dotProject backup until the system has had time to mature.

The Backup module is a very new feature of dotProject v2.x and above and should be treated with extreme caution until it has been fully tested and confirmed by a wide range of users.

Contents

1 Enabling / Setting up the Backup Module

The backup module must be installed as an add on module and then enabled. See Module Management if you are unsure.

Permissions will be required to manage control over access of the module because it will be incorporated in the standard dotProject options menu.

2 Running the Backup Module

To run the module select Backup from the option menu and a screen will be displayed with 3 options incorporated on the backup screen and a breadcrumb at the top "restore xml file" to upload from a backup.

3 Generating a Backup

To generate a back up set the following:

Export: Select the required option from the 3 available - all are self-explanatory.

Options - Tick Add "DROP Table" option if you wish to include that - you should refer to your mySQL documentation if you are unsure as to the ramifications of that option.

Save as: Select the required option.

The system will then generate a backup in XML format.

4 Restoring from Backup

The option "restore xml file" is used to restore a database from an XML file. Click on that link and you will be provided with a screen that allows you to nominate the name / location of the previously generated backup file and to select whether or not to proceed with the upload even in the event that an error is encountered.

Please Remember that you can only restore from an XML file generated by the backup utility and not from any other XML files and/or SQL files.
