USER MANUAL LINKS

The links module provides a central repository for storing reference / web links within dotProject and, optionally, against projects and/or tasks.

Contents

1 Enabling the Links Module

The links module has to be enabled for it to be visible - see Module Management for details

2 Links Display

The main links display shows all of the stored links, divided into projects/tasks if necessary. There are also tabs that can be used to list only links of certain "categories". (See Links Categories / Tabs below for more details).

The display itself shows:

Edit icon for editing that link entry
Link Name The descriptive name provided by dotProject link entry
Description Full description of the link, it's reasons for inclusion etc - whatever you decide to use it for.
Category Category that the link has been filed in
Task Name Name of associated task (if set)
Owner Name of the person who entered the link
Date Date and time the link was incorporated

3 Links Search

The links search option at the top right hand side of the module display is a simple, within module, searching facility. Use it to locate strings in the links listing. To clear the search results, clear the search box and search again for nothing.

4 Links Filter

At the top, right hand side of the links module there is a dropdown listing of available filters. The drop down allows you to filter the listing by Projects - ie show the links relating to All (projects) or a specific project.[1]

5 Links Categories / Tabs

On the main links display, there are a series of available tabs into which links can be categorised or grouped.

For details on how to modify your link categories please refer to Link Types.

Clicking on any of these tabs will filter the listing to show links that match that category only.[2]

6 Adding / Editing a Link

Creating a link is done via the new link option on the top right hand side of the Link display.

When creating a link you need to complete the following information:

Link Name Name for the link - normally something that is human readable / understandable
Category Drop down list of available categories
Project Drop down list of all available projects that the link could be assigned to
Task Optional choice of task within project - you will obviously need to have selected a project first
Description Full description of the link
Link URL Full URL of the link itself - if you are linking externally to your current dotProject installation you will need to include http://<link> otherwise dotProject will attempt to expand the link to http://<your dotProject URL>/<link URL>

Editing a link is done via the Edit Icon (on the extreme left hand side of the screen) and completing the same fields.

7 Deleting a Link

To delete any link click on the edit icon and there will be a delete option on top of the main display - to the right hand side. (If there is no icon chances are you don't have permission to delete in the module).
